Formal assemblies conducted indoors begin with the presentation of the Colors, referred to as Posting the Colors, and end with the Retirement of the Colors. The following instructions outline the procedures for posting and retiring the Colors, with a head table and without head table. The presentation of colors is a ceremony presenting or retiring a flag.
The "colors" refer to a flag. A color guard, consisting of two honor guards and two flag bearers, presents or retires the colors. A Sergeant.

6 Say, "Color guard, post the colors." The color bearer raises the flag or places it in the stand. 7 Say, "Color Guard, honor your colors." The color guard salutes, or if not in uniform, they place their hands over their hearts if civilians, but Veterans may salute. Posting the colors requires that a color guard team move the colors (usually the American flag, the state flag, the service flag, and the unit flag) from a carried position and placed into a stand.
This formality is normally done at events such as graduation ceremonies and public events. Two. Color Guard, Post the Colors Scouts, Salute Pledge of Allegiance (say Pledge) Two (return to the "2nd" position - a leftover military term) Color Guard Retreat (Yes, they do retreat sometimes). Color Guard Dismissed That gets everyones attention and along with a retiring of the Colors, gives everyone a specific start and end the meeting/event.
The colors are pre-posted on the stage/front of the room and the color team enters, presents (Anthem), and then departs. No posting. With the Show-n-Go, the colors do not matter.
As long as the American flag pre-posted, the color team can present whatever they carry as their standard colors (American, State, etc.).
