Ah Princess Celestia, the magical mentor of Twilight and the ruler of Equestria for over a thousand years. I feel like she was always a protector and motherly figure- Mostly for Luna when they were younger. She saw Starswirl the Bearded as her own mentor as well, admiring him greatly and almost seeing him as a father figure back in ancient.

Princess Celestia is introduced in the prologue of the first episode during a narration of events that took place before the show's main timeline. Though she is not named at this point, the narration references Celestia as the elder of two royal sisters who ruled Equestria together and "created harmony for all the land."
