FEEDING THE 4,000 AND FEEDING THE 5,000-SAME OR DIFFERENT? by Shawn Brasseaux Anyone familiar with Scripture is aware of Christ Jesus miraculously feeding the multitudes. The Bible student will understand one passage where He feeds 5,000 and another passage where He feeds 4,000. However, there's another important difference I'd like you to see.
This past Sunday we studied the account of the feeding of the 5000 plus described in Mark 6 and John 6. The feeding of the multitudes was clearly important to the Gospel writers since, aside from the Resurrection, it is the only miracle recorded by all four. The indisputable miracles helped them be certain that Jesus must be the One foretold by all the prophets (Luke 24:27; John 1:45), the coming King of Israel (Isaiah 9:6, 7 Luke 1:32, 33).

The second miracle, the "Feeding of the 4,000," with seven loaves of bread and fish, is reported by Matthew 15:32-39 and Mark 8:1-9, but not by Luke or John.
In the second feeding there are 7 baskets left over. The feeding of the 4,000, while only recorded in Matthew 15:32-39 and Mark 8:1-10, also carries substantial weight in understanding Jesus' ministry. Firstly, these miracles underscore Jesus' compassion and concern for the physical needs of the people.
