Do Musical Notes Have Color
The use of colours to represent notes is very popular in the classroom and teaching studio. What colour does your day feel like? What key are your favourite pieces today? Do they match? I have a particular set of colours I use for keys. C is red, D is orange, E is yellow, F is green, G is blue, A is purple and B is pink.
These colours are used throughout the Triquetrae Music. My question: is there a standard coding of colors for the musical notes (like that of a resistor) or am I just thinking nonsense by thinking of notes in terms of colors? I also think that since my keyboard is touch sensitive, a hard A should light up brighter than a soft A. Colored music notation is a technique used to facilitate enhanced learning in young music students by adding visual color to written musical notation.

It is based upon the concept that color can affect the observer in various ways, and combines this with standard learning of basic notation. But while people can easily name most colors in different groups-distinguishing the specific frequencies and wavelengths of light-few can do the same for musical notes, which represent sounds with distinct, unchanging pitches. The color of music notes is not a universal, objective fact. However, some people experience a phenomenon called chromesthesia, where they perceive colors when hearing musical notes. This is a form of synesthesia, where one sense (hearing) triggers another (sight).
In this work, a similar problem is addressed. Unlike the already made attempts, where an analogy with western music have been made, here a trial is made to do the same for the seven notes of Carnatic music. The work is further extended by trying to identify a particular color for a specific raga.
