I'm thinking about having my toons on my 2575 painted black, what's the recommended paint and what are your experiences with painted toons, I just don't like the high polished look, black would match my boat but I'm worried bumpers would rub the paint off. Now I want to just paint the upper half so it will be easier to keep clean. The salt leaves stains and trash on them. I have spent a lot of time polishing the toons or my previous and my current pontoon boat but really sick of doing it but really dislike when they look like crap also.
the acid wash helps but just doesn't do it for me. Has anyone had success with vinyl wrapping their toons? The fresh water tannin discoloration covers up the salt water stains eventually! If you're one of those people that likes your 'toons to shine like a mirror, you might be inclined to use a bottom paint made for metal. I would rather use my boat than wax metal or paint on my days off.
Just my opinion. As a pontoon manufacturer and 3rd generation boat dealer, I can honestly tell you no matter what you do, you will NOT make paint stick to the toons. First tiny flake, scratch, or nick it will peel off almost immediately.
How about this? We have finished painting the Pontoon boat railings! We are now one step closer to having the Texas P'Toon finished and on the water. We couldn't be anymore excited to have it. The color was right out of Henry Ford's playbook: I could get any color bottom paint as long as I wanted black.
The bottom paint was a special type available for aluminum boats. There's not a huge market around here so there's not a lot of options. Of course most people thought I was crazy for trying to bottom paint the 'toons.

If you launch it all the time and not in salt water they don't. Repainting properly is a 3 day job. Prep, prime with Epoxy primer, then paint with aluminum bottom paint.
It is a DIY project but do it right if you want the toons to last.
