The new edition of Samantha in her original outfit is now available - on backorder until March 21, but the original outfit is back! Samantha was discontinued and re-released for a limited time in 2021 to celebrate American Girl's 35th anniversary. Though a revamped version of the doll, featuring a pink dress and red bow, is available on American Girl's website for $125, the original Samantha, with her checkered dress and red hat, is worth the big bucks. From May 2009 to August 2014 the entire collection was archived with the exception of her books, movie, and the mini doll. A new BeForever collection released in August 2014. Her BeForever doll retired in December 2024, and Samantha was briefly unavailable until she was rereleased.
Samantha Parkington was the first-ever doll to be released by American Girl with Molly Mclntire, and Kirsten Larson. Samantha was also the first doll to be retired and re-released. Samantha was re-released in the Historical Character relaunched, called BeForever.
