Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was first published in 1865, but it was withdrawn as the illustrator, Tenniel, was unhappy with the quality of the printing. John Tenniel's charming illustrations brought to life Lewis Carroll's much-loved tales of Wonderland, and are some of the most famous literary illustrations of all time. One of the most beautiful editions of the Carroll classic is also one of the earliest color ones - a glorious 1949 edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (public library), illustrated by artist Leonard Weisgard.
