Margaret's first book, "Garden Colour," followed a layout of having a chapter for most months- except for November, December, and January- which she wrote herself. A well-known garden author wrote an introductory chapter for each season. Theresa Earle covered spring, Summer by Eleanor Vere Boyle, Autumn by Rose Kinsley (daughter of Charles Kingsley), and Vicary Gibbs wrapped things up with.

Waterfield was a botanical painter, best known for her illustrations and contributions to gardening books. GOOD+ Oversize Hardbound 196 indexed and slightly age tanned pages including 50 tipped in color prints plus Frontispiece, on glossy paper.
Blue Boards with gilt tiles on spine and front and gilt flower design. Top edge gilt, deckle edge on side and bottom. 4 page sections with collation numbers show some gaps between them but no page loosening.
Rubbing to edges, corners and spine ends. Spine. Hardcover.

The first article was published in the RHS journal, The Garden in August 1987 by William Fredrick Jr which ended: "the author would welcome additional information about Margaret Helen Waterfield and the whereabouts of any of her original watercolours."
