She is a student at Canterlot High School, a former student of Princess Celestia, and a rhythm guitarist for the Rainbooms. Sunset Shimmer is a fictional character who appears in the fourth incarnation of Hasbro 's My Little Pony toyline and media franchise, beginning with My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013).

Sunset Shimmer is, for all intents and purposes, the main character of the Equestria Girls brand, with a large portion of major storylines being tied to Sunset Shimmer in some way, and with her character arc being the driving force of the first two films, and part of the fourth.
