Knuckles the Echidna (ナックルズ・ザ・エキドゥナ Nakkuruzu za Ekiduna?) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic echidna and the current guardian of the Master Emerald, a powerful ancient gemstone which is kept on Angel Island. Knuckles and sonic both have striking eyes because they are anagolous.

I'd be assuming that for Knuckles / Metal Knuckles, a green color would be more visible in a dark background than purple (making MK eyes red like Metal Sonic would be kinda odd color-wise). For Sonic / Metal Sonic, I'd guess on the green/red being opposites on the color wheel (being both characters opposites as well, and all that). Knuckles' eyes are pointed with purple irises.
