Going through the village, He "met ten men that were lepers which stood afar off," (vs. 2). According to Leviticus 13 there are very detailed and specific guidelines that a community and individuals are to follow in regard to dealing with cases of leprosy.
The story of the ten Lepers simply tells us that we should remember to be thankful when people do things to help us. In the time of Jesus, leprosy was considered a very serious and infectious disease. Lepers were cast out from normal society and had to live together in leper colonies.
Ordinary people were terrified of catching this disease. Christ healed the 10 lepers of our text, oh what a blessing. Only one of the former lepers returned to Christ to give thanks and glory to God, and he was a Samaritan.
Christ was concerned about this and asked: "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?" Yes, where are the nine. They were cleansed from a most dreadful disease. Add the ten lepers to the scene Lepers were people who had terrible skin diseases - and a terrible life.
Put your hands between the lepers and Jesus to create a barrier. Lepers were not allowed to live in the towns, because people were afraid of catching their disease. If anyone came near a leper, the leper had to warn the other person to go.
Jesus sent the ten lepers to the priests before they were healed. They responded in faith and went. Only one healed leper, the Samaritan, showed gratitude (Lk 17:15-17).
3. Physical needs are so deeply felt that people often put their physical need before their spiritual need. Jesus Heals the Ten Lepers Luke 17:11-19 In His mercy, Jesus healed ten men who had a terrible skin disease.
Only one of the ten returned to praise God and thank Jesus. We should follow the example of the one and live our lives in gratitude to our Savior. Cast Out Do you remember the last time you were sick with a fever? The Story Itself (Luke 17:11-19).
Ten lepers met Jesus from a distance. They lifted their voices and cried out to him for mercy. Jesus told them to go show themselves to the priest.
When they saw that they had been healed, only one leper returned. The lepers left rejoicing, but one in the group, realizing how great and kind the Lord had been to him, turned back towards Jesus. This man fell down at Jesus' feet, thanking Him for the miracle that He performed.
This act of gratitude was magnified when we learn that the only one to return was a Samaritan. Jesus looked down at the Samaritan man and asked him where the other nine lepers had. EPISODE NO.
265 Luke 17:11-19 Jesus Healed Ten Lepers 11 Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem, going from Galilee through Samaria. 12 He came into a village. Ten men met him there.
These men did not come close to Jesus, because they all had leprosy. 13 But the men shouted to Jesus, "Jesus! Teacher! Take pity on us!". In the story of the Ten Lepers we see the Page 1 The Ten Lepers two forms of prayer we are called to live as people of faith.
We are people of liturgy, with rites, precepts and obligations to fulfill as a community.
