Hello! I found a lot of the colour combinations given to leaders in the base game either ugly or nonsensical. This radicalised me so I had to make a mod to fix it. The aim was to make aesthetically pleasing colour combinations based either on historical sources, or complementing the leaders'.

To me, blue is the main color of Mapuche culture, and as you said, blue and white are used by America. I like to see the Mapuche army all wearing two shades of blue, instead of blue and white. Civilization 6 has bigger problems than that.
When you levy city-states, their units change their style to fit the style of your civilization. Which includes changing soldiers' skin color In spite of that, I still welcome the change. It's nice to visually distinguish my army from the army of my enemy sometimes.
edit: by "welcome the change" I mean that I like that devs decided to diversify. PSA: You can easily change CIV colors by editing the.xml files (instructions) Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I personally enjoy modifying the colors of my CIV units and borders. For example, the Civilopedia Unit Images do Not have Civ Colors or Smoke or Shadow shades so you have 254 Colors rather than 160 Colors that the Units have to use in game palettes.
