For one piece, oda jam packs a bunch of stuff in there but still manages to make it coherent and readable so I never have an issue with it. A manga like jojos on the other hand is virtually impossible to read black and white because it's cluttered and doesn't know how to handle it. The colored definitely looks better in mostly all the cases but sadly the digital colored volumes/chapters don't have the sbs pages which is at the end of each chapter where Oda answers fan questions and theories and more detailed information on manga.

My opinion: I have nothing against the black and white but when I did read chapters of manga in color it gave it more of an anime feel. Scenes were easier to understand because characters had colored hair and backgrounds were colored as well. I think reading colored manga first is better. Quality of black'n'white One Piece scans before Oda switched to digital drawing is pretty ish IMO. Colored version fixes it.
However, since Oda switched to digital, black'n'white version is better IMO. It has all the details and amazing original Oda drawings. Colored version is still pretty sweet, but it's not up to date yet.

(It has chapters 1. If it's official coloring like the OP colored manga then that one. As for different manga, if I were to read JoJo manga, I obviously would pick the official coloring as JoJo as a series is very colorful.
