Is Venom Blue Or Black
While Venom's light blue color in Marvel vs. Capcom may turn off purists, the character has had different color schemes within the realm of comics as well. David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane, Venom's original creators, mixed in shades of blue with the character's predominantly black costume to make certain body parts stand out.
He's black. The blue and purple is just used to show parts where light is hitting him. Comics have always used blues and purples to show highlights on black characters.

Black would end up being black/grey because they probably couldn't have colors reflect off the model, which would.make Venom hard to see. Venom has typically been highlighted with blue in the comics which is probably what led them to think just coloring him blue wouldn't be jarring or too much of a departure. Well, venom isn't actually blue.
When he came out, comic companies used blue to show shading, as there was one shade of black that could be printed, and if they only used black, the characters would look like silhouettes. I can't put my finger on why exactly but purple looks like a purple venom and blue looks like a black venom. Blue and black has a certain "darkness" that doesn't work with purple or grey. Maybe it's the darker, more gritty, overall tone of 80's and 90's comics that dealt with some pretty gritty stories that I associate it with, but the blue and black combo just has a darker and more sinister vibe to it imo.
Reply reply Renacc Reply reply. The recent Venom comic confirms that colors do matter in symbiote lore, with the implication that red symbiotes are stronger than black ones. The hierarchy of symbiote colors is now established, with red symbiotes being naturally stronger than black ones.
