Wing Buffs are additional Winged Light you acquire by ascending your friendships with Spirits using Ascended Candles. They are one of the hardest collectible items to obtain in Sky. The Wing Buff looks like a wing with a lock symbol in the spirit Friendship Tree.
You can only purchase the Wing Buff after obtaining all items below it in the tree's trunk. Purchasing it clears the cloud obscuring. There are 92 winged light throughout the sky realm, which will only get you 8 stars.

I had a few ascended candles at the top of the eye of eden, and i used two. When i approached the door, i saw that the two spirits I ascended gave me extra winged light for the next run, so i went back to use the rest of my candles, but the spirits i ascended after this didn't give me any light. is there a way to recover this? it looks like i'm completely locked out of two.

The stars you give to the fallen statues will be converted into ascended candles, which you can use to buy wing buffs from the spirits, granting you stars at the start of your new life.
