Mario Miranda was an Indian cartoonist known for his cartoons depicting Goan village life. He had a successful career drawing cartoons for various newspapers in India. Some of his most famous cartoons featured characters like Miss Nimbupani.
He received many prestigious awards for his work, including the Padma Vibhushan. Miranda lived most of his life in Goa and continued drawing cartoons. Weekly Cartoon Every Friday, we send you some pictures drawn by Mario.

Mário João Carlos do Rosário de Brito Miranda OYC ComIH (2 May 1926 - 11 December 2011), also known as Mario de Miranda, was an Indian cartoonist and painter based in Loutolim, Goa. Consequently, Mario de Miranda's drawings about The theatristas are particularly noted for their brilliant songs and skits which parody various aspects of Goan life; their favourite targets being the government and the batcars.
Basilio, like most of his colleagues, lives in Bombay and is the head. Mario Miranda's cartoons were famed for their intricate detailing, bold strokes and riotous humour. His depiction of the quintessential Goan lifestyle, infused with satire and social commentary, became his signature style.

(Outside Mario Miranda Gallery) In my youth, I would see cartoons of R K Laxman, Shankar (K Shankar Pillai) and Mario Miranda (1926-2011). I could easily relate to Mario's observations, humour and caricaturing. Mario was born in 1926 in Daman, then a Portuguese enclave, in a Goan Roman Catholic family of Saraswat Brahmin (Sardesai) ancestry.
His family was part of the local aristocracy.
