Most important thing is to have your hair out of your face and if you have long hair to wear a bun rather than a ponytail - a ponytail can smack you or others in the face during some movements! For performances and competitions I'd slick it back smoothly, pin it well, and use a clip on bun that matched my hair color for continuity with the rest of the group. Worked great and you couldn't tell. No need to buy something pricey.
