A GNOME Shell Extension that provides 7 Custom Accent Colors for versions 43-46. The selected Accent Color can be applied to GTK4/GTK3 apps and the Gnome Shell. For a pinch more personalisation of Ubuntu 24.10 check out Auto Accent Colour, a new GNOME Shell extension that changes the system accent colour based on your current desktop wallpaper.
Accent colours are a headline feature in GNOME 47, although not new to Ubuntu users since Ubuntu added its own. This is a little project that I've been working on to improve my programming skills. The project involves changing the accent color of your desktop in Gnome Shell.
How it works To change the accent color, we take the Gnome Shell theme from this repository, modify the scss file to change the accent color, and then install the modified theme. The Auto Accent Colour extension provides a quick and efficient way to enhance the visual appeal of your desktop by automatically configuring the GNOME accent color based on your wallpaper. It's a user-friendly option that simplifies how users personalize their environments, differing from more complex themes that affect GTK4/libadwaita apps.
If you dream of being able to set a different accent color for use in GNOME Shell, I've got news. Work to properly and officially implement support for. Since this was something some people have been requesting for a long time, I wanted to share with you the good news: there is a new extension that allows to change the accent colour of Gnome.
It colours consistently both the shell (Extension User Themes needed to change the theme in Tweaks) and all the other apps. Simple and easy to use. For me it works fine, but the usual disclaimers apply.
GNOME 47 finally introduced accent colors support, allowing users to choose the color for slide-bars, toggle buttons, input border, and so forth. However, it so far does NOT auto. Lowered the upper bound of the yellow and orange hue ranges.
These accents seemed like they were sometimes encroaching on green's turf, setting the accent colour to yellow on a background where green would be more appropriate etc. Modified blue's RGB value to be more in line with that of GNOME's blue accent. Automatically set the GNOME accent colour based on the user's background.
Note: GNOME Settings sometimes has an issue of it 'resetting' the accent colour when the Appearance page is open and the accent colour is changed externally. If this happens, navigate away from the Appearance page (or close the Settings window), and re-run the Auto Accent Colour script by clicking the 'Force Refresh.
