Can I Dye My Horses Mane and Tail? It is acceptable to dye a horse's mane and tail. It's absolutely OK to dye your horse's mane as long as you are using a dye that won't harm your horse's hair. When dyeing your horse's mane you just need to be careful of the colour you chose.
Not every colour will fit the main colour of your horse. For the mane, its a good idea to put something like vasoline along the neck so that if/when the dye gets on it from the mane, it wont dye the hair on the neck. The trash bag idea is a good idea for the tail IF your horse is ok with it.

Use a brush or applicator to apply the dye to the horse's coat. Be sure to blend the dye into the surrounding area to create an even look. Allow the dye to dry before moving to the next section.
If necessary, use a comb to blend the dye into the mane and tail. Once the dye is completely dry, brush the coat to remove any excess dye.
