Be sorted, earn house points, debate which actor portrayed Dumbledore the best and finally get some closure for your Post. For example, HP1 in 4K is a new master and color correction has been applied on scenes. The open matte version has the same color grading as sthe old HD master so it makes sense to merge them for shots that are not open matte (if there are any, cause the film seems to be completely open matte).
To finish off Potter week at fxguide (and part of a new series talking to the world's greatest colorists), Mike Seymour has a frank discussion with Peter Doyle, Senior Supervising Colorist, about Harry Potter 7: Part 2. Mike had spoken to Peter in 2009 about his work on the Potter series, and it was one of our most popular fxpodcasts. This time Peter explains how he creatively created key.
Hi, in this video I share my thoughts on the color grading in Harry Potter. How the last four films are graded dark for a quite shallow reason, because the s. This makes all the scenes with Ron, Hermione, and Harry feel visceral and meaningful, while simultaneously helping develop their arcs as individual characters, rather than the Columbus approach of them being the Harry Potter sideshow, existing simply to further the plot along.
To improve continuity between films, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' has been edited to imitate the feel, and colour-grade, and sound of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'. I recently rewatched the series and the 6th one really stood out as having fantastic cinematography but awful color grading. Tries a bit too hard to be artistic in that regard, I guess it sort of works as more of a tone piece? It's interesting to say the least lmao.
Your fix looks much better, what'd you use to color it? An advice to HBO and the creators, please keep the bright color grading of the first two films. You can make the Series dark without sacrificing on the color pallet (eg COS film) and please don't ever do HBP and House of Dragons level of dark scenes ever. Something I've noticed in the trailers and showcases is that the color grading feels a bit bleak instead of the original cozy feeling of Hogwarts, what do you think about it?
