Base codes (also known as date codes or production codes) are a series of identifiers found on the base of any Hot Wheels model used to determine a date of production. Base codes of Charawheels models from 2001 to 2003 were toy identification numbers. A different laser-etching process was created and patented by Nathan Proch, Bryan Benedict, and Wayne Scott for some 2005 and 2006 releases.
